Condition: knee joint swelling and pain (arthritis). Diagnosed with degenerative wear and tear of arthritis. I noticed the first couple of days after application there was not the slight ache in the joint I always felt when not regularly taking Advil. I especially noticed not having the ache that I would have at night in bed after being on my feet all day. After application of the Copaiba oil, I didn’t take Advil for the first time after playing tennis. After tennis I did not have the aches that I usually do (even when taking the Advil).

Amazon Lodge

New World Natural Products, through our Peruvian subsidiary, PRONASE, have now purchased 72 hectares, approx. 180 acres, in one block, approx. 25 miles SW of Iquitos. The only access is by boat, 30 minutes by motor boat, on the Rio Nanay from the port of Santa Clara. You leave the river at the village of Tarapota, and walk for 30 minutes to the Greeting House, currently the only building on the property. We have at present two horses in Tarapota for use as transportation to the property if needed by persons challenged by the walk.

We have approx 50 acres of virgin rainforest. The remainder of the property is either abandoned farms, which were used mostly to grow bananas and other fruit, or wetlands. We are negotiating for an additional 75 acres of which 50 acres is virgin rainforest. If successful in acquiring this, we will have a block of 100 acres of untouched rainforest.

The area designated for the lodge is high ground, well drained and mosquito free (during the day at least). We have set aside 25 acres for the lodge and grounds. We have plans for 3 bungalows (sleeping 14), a main meeting/research/dining building, and a separate kitchen building during our Phase 1 construction, scheduled to begin January, 2005.

On the remaining 60 acres of high ground, we plan to begin planting Copaiba seedlings in January of 2004, and Sangre de Grado later in the year. We already have an existing plantation of mature Camu Camu at a separate location, and are planning on acquiring an abandoned plantation of Una de Gato which is in the area. We will only clear “lanes” to allow the planting, leaving strips of the existing second growth between the “lanes” of trees.

We are planning on establishing a medicine trail in the area of the lodge, leading our guests to the different medicine plants and trees that already exist on the property. We are planning on leaving the virgin rainforest untouched, other than cutting walking trails through the land to allow our guests to visit the area without impacting the natural environment. We have not fully explored the property to identify all of the existing medicinal plants, but we have identified mature: Abuta, Aguaje, Bellaco Caspi, Chakruna, Chuhuasi, Huito, Oje, Pichirina, Pinion, Sangre de Grado, Toe, Bananas, Cocoa, and Mango. All of these from only the first 5 acres that we have explored completely.

Our long terms plans include setting up a standard one week visit to Iquitos and the lodge, incorporating classroom instruction by a Curandera from Iqutios, a biologist with a Masters Degree from the National University in Iquitos who has worked with James Duke on the Rio Napo, and the head of research at the International Institute for the Study of Amazonian Plants (I.I.A.P.); with field work on the property to identify the plants in their native setting.
